Eulogy - Simon Peter Brown
NewBurru, Brownman, Wedda Man, and Wolsey, were just some the names that Simon Peter Brown had been called.
A native of Bonnor, Point Hill, in the parish of St Catherine, he became the third child for his mother, Beulah Byfield, on May 25, 1961. His mother later had two more girls, which made him the sole gentleman among the ladies named, Doreen, who predeceased him, Jennifer, Ava and Heather-Gaye.
At an early age, Simon went to live with his grandmother’s sister, Aunt Daisy, and cousins Winnel, Myrtle, and Clive. He attended Point Hill Primary School before moving to Kingston to live with his mother, grandmother, and other siblings, where he completed his secondary education at Denham Town Secondary School and Heart Trust NTA Lluidas Vale Vocational Training Center.
The family relocated to Myrie Avenue in the mid 1970s, and by the 1980s, he developed a love for music. His musical journey saw him selling CD at the norman Manley international airport. He sold original and authentic Cds to visitors who came to the island which became his bread and butter. Simon further realized that was there was more to his potential against this backdrop he started working with artists on the Volcano record label including Yellowman, Barrington Levy, Jah Thomas, and the late Jungo Lawes. His interest in music inspired him to write songs and DJ his own works along side sounds such as Kilamanjro
As a result of his passion for music the record label Burro International record was created in 1995. His dream was for his music to be billboard featured and nominated. During his musical career he produced and written over fifteen (15) pieces of music work for knows acts such as Anthony B, Terry Ganzie, King Yellowman, Jigzy King to name a few.
Every Saturday morning, Simon, who loved horse racing, was spotted in the betting shop.
Simon's decision to become a Christian in the year 2000 was a turning point in his life. He had an unwavering commitment to his church and a deep belief in God. He would spend time sharing the gospel of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, without fear about being mocked. His love for god saw him in church up to the last Sunday 06 November 2022 where many of his church friends that would have been his last moment at church.
He had one child Sakaya Brown getting married to Charmaine Elaine Thomas in 2001. He was the father of two more children from previous unions. Dad had a deep love for his children he ensured that every Saturday he cooked soup for us all to enjoy and to sit and talk about what’s happening in our lives.
Simon’s favourite meal was that of fish which would see him and his family driving out to Port Royal to have a nice steam fish dinner. Even on his birthday Simon only wanted a nice fish meal with a cold malta. His favourite hobby was that of watching sports especially Premier league football right before Sunday morning church or any other days the game were being played. He also had a deep love for track and field.
Like many Simon loved sports to the point where his favourite team was that of Liverpool and for the worldcup he was a big fan of Germany.
Simon was a hard worker, he was dedicated and committed to his job; he was always on time for work save and except when his daughter dropped him to work; the point he hardly took vacation unless he was told by the Hr Manager to take his vacation leave.
Simon was a news junkie, as a result Simon make sure he was kept abreast of whats happening in the world daily. The events on January 14 on Washington Capital, Ukraine war. I recall one day we were both talking at home when dad, blurted out Simoy: “ The Minister says he was guard off with the one day storm.
Oh boy, “…I knew that the storm was coming because every news channel in the usa had broadcasted it.” He ensured that every evening he spent time to watch Prime time new.
Simon had a deep love for people as a result walking with Simon was like walking with a celebrity, everybody knew him and loved calling to him due to his warm personality and smile.
Simon had a deep love for fashion to the point where he started his own business, LookGood fashion and further went on to sell clothes to everyone he came in contact.
His catchphrase was "Just show love to everyone." God created us all, therefore I don't need to know you.
As we celebrate his life and work, let us remember family time is limited; cherish it. Friend time is limited-prioritize real ones., Children time is precious-be present.
