Welcome!

Who we are

The Kingston Church of Christ (KCOC) is a loving family of Christians in Jamaica and is a part of the International Churches of Christ (ICOC). Although the church members congregate on Sundays in Kingston, St. Catherine, May Pen, Mandeville, Santa Cruz, Montego Bay, and monthly in Savanna-La-Mar, they also meet in small 'Family' groups in their communities. Christianity is a practical religion that requires participation to fully appreciate the truth and wisdom of Jesus’ teaching. Every member is encouraged to be a part of a small group where they experience the richness of the fellowship.

A Brief History

The KCOC was started in 1984 and was enlightened about the true repentance in 1987. The church immediately experienced rapid growth, which was clearly done by of the Spirit of the Lord and not human wisdom or effort. Many people repented and over a hundred people were baptized that first year, and the church grew to over 1200 members in the next 15 years. The KCOC also started several churches in Jamaica and the Caribbean, namely Trinidad (1989); May Pen, Jamaica & Barbados (1991); Portmore, Jamaica (1992); Guyana & Curacao (1994); Mandeville, Santa Cruz, Spanish Town and Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Suriname (1996); and Grenada (1998)].

The rapid growth was not unique to the church in Jamaica. At the same time, the ICOC churches in other countries were experiencing similar explosive growth, unhindered by culture or language, which that the Holy Spirit had started a movement throughout the world. The church also grew in its concern for the poor. As the church spread across boundaries, many disciples began to see poverty at levels they had not seen first-hand before. The word of God convicted our hearts:
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world - James 1:27
This concern led to the birth Hope Worldwide, the benevolent arm of the church. Hope Worldwide grew in its impact in relieving suffering and has been officially recognized as a United Nations Partner. In Jamaica, members of the KCOC serve their neighbours in a variety of ways, including providing mental, social, and physical stimulation to wards of government-operated homes. Hope Worldwide Jamaica continues to serve at-risk youth, women who live risky lifestyles, and other groups in the inner city.

The human element of the church is a major part of our history, which reinforced that we are saved by God's mercy and not by the righteous things we have done (Titus 3:5). In 2003, the church was launched into a period of introspection after a tumultuous episode of members expressing dissatisfaction about certain matters. Although the church lost many members, this aspect of our history is very helpful and has made us better as a church locally and internationally.

Everyone is invited to visit without discrimination. We believe that God has offered His salvation to all people, even in their sinful state, and it is His grace that teaches us to say ‘no’ to ungodliness. Please come and visit one of our congregations and see if this can be home for you.
